Well known still-photographer John Wayne Miller's Multi-media Production "Quack Attack" premieres Friday, August 21st, at Hermosa Community Theater.
Miller activates his camera's motor drive to capture sequential surfing shots at four frames a second. Miller shot tens of thousands of these images over a period of 90 days, between the Fall of 2008 and the Winter of 2009. All images were taken at Hermosa Pier, documenting the height of our local surfing season.
In the audio-video studio, these images are linked together at speeds of up to 30 frames a second and slowed to more than a frame a second, for closer examination. The speed variations give the viewer a sense of time compression and expansion, that draws one into the audio and visual effects.
Collaborating with professional video editor and song writer Cory Lombardelli, who has scored the show with all original music, Miller weaves a story of not only the surfing at the Pier, but the antics that make up a 'total Pier experience'.
Pre-show live entertainment begins at 7:00 p.m., with local heart throb Kevin Sousa on guitar, joined by former 'Zappa' saxophone player Bill 'Stumuk" Nugent.
The event is sponsored by the Hermosa Arts Foundation, who will be guest bartending in the lobby (Beer and Wine) with those proceeds going to the HAF.
Admission is $10 at the door.
